(Capsicum annuum) Chiltepin peppers are extremely spicy, measuring between 50,000 and 100,000 Scoville Heat Units. These plants typically reach a height of around 2 feet and yield small, wrinkled pods with thin skins that grow up to 3/8 inch in diameter. When fully ripe, the peppers can be orange or deep red.
Chiltepin peppers (Capsicum annuum) thrive in USDA Hardiness Zones 8–11. In zones 10-11, they can grow as perennials, but in cooler areas, they're usually grown as annuals or kept in containers.
